KIDDING. Whoa, this Big 5 season is gonna be interesting.
Minnesota all-star and champion of “fuck-you-get-past-me” roller derby Juke Boxx steps right into a whole pile of fun during her inaugural run as a cast member. We also have the privilege of talking with AZRD coach Fred Nutz, Oly Rollers coach Eric and Hockey Honey about current events.
Hot (and presumably local) man-on-man action coming up this weekend in Bakersfield!

You are GONNA MISS it at the OCC/MIR bout!
Thank you for the very balanced and thoughtful coverage. I would love to say to the Oly coach that he made a mistake by pulling Whammy for her age. She’s awesome under fire and knows her stuff. As people continue to age out of junior derby, you’re going to get 18 year olds who have significant experience. Don’t discount them!
It is hypocritical for DumpTruck and all others that talk about integrity and not using loopholes in the rules when they have been supporting and defending slow scrum derby. I did not hear anything from them for the last three years and all of a sudden they are so moral. I love how you criticize Oly for not caring about the fans, wow!! Nobody in Roller Derby seems to care about the fans. Juke Boxx suddenly is the defender of fast derby when we (the fans) have been saying that for three years. Congruent thoughts and actions please.
WOOOOO, GO DRIVE-BY CITY ROLLERS!!!! We rule.
I have never once claimed to hate slow derby, I hate it when people refuse to skate and be in play (no pack play to get jammers through). I love derby at all speeds, as long as we are keeping the game about making contact and interacting = explosive, exciting, and most of all.. challenging!
I was listening to the podcast at work. I work with my dad and he overheard the commotion and wanted to know what the big deal was. I explained the situation, how the players transferred, how it was within the rules, and how everyone in the community viewed it negatively.
When were finished talking about it, my dad concluded. “That sounds like shaky rules. They ought to straighten that out, or it will kill them.”
He then went back to his laptop to check the leaderboards of the PGA golf tournament.
After listening to the Hockey Honey interview, I believe that when her skating days are over, she should consider running or applying for a WFTDA Board of Directors position. Hopefully, it would give her the opportunity to contribute her vision of how shape and sharpen the focus of the WFTDA in a direction that fosters the best athleticism in the sport possible. Skaters not Showoffs, Players not Poseurs.
Hey, Guys… Outstanding episode this week.. As everyone knows, one of the things that makes derby so appealing is that it runs entirely on the love of everyone involved, and the vision every individual who participates has for its future and what it CAN be culminates in each person’s little hip-check in the direction they imagine derby should go. That being said, the information everyone has at their disposal to conduct their individual actions seems critical for the sport, and culture at large. Thanks for being a source of accurate information. Your show continues to be a very positive force for the well-being of the hobby I love.
Fast Derby, I will gladly do my internly duties and round up all of the episodes where Pitchit shares his very specific opinion on non-starts… but that might take me all day. Have we been listening to two different podcasts? We have most certainly had opinions and feelings about noller derby.
