Dear Derby Deeds Podcast staff,
Please stay away from my luggage!

I don’t know anything about the Your Mom men’s team but I am a bit shocked at all the hatin’. Are team names that different from player names? I mean thank god all these WFTDA players on ranked leagues don’t have silly or distasteful player names. They might not be taken seriously!
Denver may have the right idea in regards to using real player names (oh wait the team is the Mile High Club, hrmm which I love.) but if you think I don’t take the players from Oly or RMRG etc seriously because of their derby names, you are mistaken.
Luckily all my Skatesaphrenics have hilarious and print friendly nom de gurres.
Love you guys and thanks for keeping the discussions lively.
Cheers,
Izzy Wright (?)
loved this episode
this may sound cliche but I wish that we’d had roller derby when I was little.
i hope one day my league start a jr roller derby program, we’ve been talking about it but we are just one year old and we have so much to learn yet about running a league *cough* potencial topic for the show *cough* JK (or maybe not)
meanwhile, i’m teaching my almost 3 year old nephew how to skate and he loves it, maybe he follow his aunt’s steps, who knows?
ps. sorry for murdering your language
Love from Monterrey Roller Derby!

I wouldn’t say that *I* hate the name of Your Mom Men’s Roller Derby, it’s more a lack of admiration on my part. They’re outside my usual travel radius so I don’t really deal with them except on rare occasions. However, their name lacks the delicious wordplay of the Pushup Brawlers and New York Shock Exchange, or the thrill of recognition of the Oskaloosa Mayhem Girls (OMG). One expects them to be scheduling a bout against the Galactic Derby Cretins. Skaters in Iowa are working hard to build acceptance for their sport, and one of the local TV sportscasters writes that his complaint is that there are lesbians in it. It’s kind of hard to respond to him with “Oh yeah, what about Your Mom?”
Skaters with names such as Pussy Dandruff, Asstastic, and Labia Gaga don’t have to wonder why they aren’t mentioned in newspapers, but that doesn’t affect anyone else. As Pitchit said, they’re undermining the efforts of other leagues. YMMRD’s choice of name means we probably won’t be able to see Momm-Ra’s skater name in print either. The league name does demonstrate creativity an order of magnitude above calling the two teams in your league Alpha and Bravo, though.

Hey DD,
Not sure if it made sense in my message but I was trying to approach the idea of how right now roller derby is about the “Anyone can do it” attitude and I was wondering how and if this will change once juniors really start to graduate up. How will skills mesh when you put a bunch of skilled juniors into a mix of new fresh meat skaters? We already know that juniors are going to be the future of roller derby but I wonder what kind of impact that will have on the structure we have now. Anyway sorry if my message was confusing I was trying not to be nervous…

Junior Roller Derby is awesome. Thanks for giving it some press.
Trying to promote junior roller derby is hard, the adult leagues love it, the fans love it, but roller derby in general is a huge time commitment.
As the Media Director for the Junior Roller Derby Association (JRDA) I am always looking for avenues to promote the sport and get kids and adults involved. Thanks for the press.
Both my daughters are in junior roller derby and it’s been an amazingly positive experience.
Can’t wait for next season and JuniorCon 2012.
