I disagree with the TXRD/OCRG rankings. I would have put Texas at #5 and OCRG at #6. Texas kind of got screwed with the brackets in that they only had played two games, both against superior opponents, while OCRG got to play four games and beat up two really weak teams, got beat up by a vastly superior team (Legit) and lost a close game to a team of similar strength (AZDD).
Consider OCRG and AZDD’s common opponent, Team Legit, and the scores of those two games, as well as the score of AZDD/OCRG:
Legit 106, OCRG 34
Legit 102, AZDD 36
AZDD 68, OCRG 58
OCRG and AZDD lost to Legit by similar margins, and AZDD beat OCRG in a close game. Therefore, you can state that the two teams are pretty much on even terms. AZDD needs to be ranked ahead of OCRG by default due to the head-to-head. But that doesn’t automatically mean they should be ranked next to each other.
Now consider the common opponent between AZDD and TXRD, San Diego:
San Diego 67, TXRD 52 (30 min game)
San Diego 235, AZDD 65 (60 min game)
If you consider that Arizona and OCRG are about equal as I have demonstrated, you could theoretically swap out AZDD and OCRG in the San Diego game. If you half the SD/AZDD score to make a more direct comparison, and plug in OCRG instead, that would leave you with:
San Diego 67, TXRD 52 (actual 30 min game)
San Diego 118, OCRG 33 (theoretical 30 min game)
In plain English, I don’t think there is any realistic way that OCRG would have been able to compete with San Diego, had the two teams faced each other. However, Texas clearly stayed with San Diego in their game, and may have very well beat them if it were a full-length game.
Too much weight was given to Arizona’s win over Texas and not enough weight was given to TXRD’s and AZDD’s common opponent, San Diego. I agree that AZDD should be ranked #4 by default, but I feel that the AZDD/TXRD was an outlier that shouldn’t factor in to TXRD’s comparison to OCRG, as I argued.
Really, it’s a situation where there are now three closely-ranked teams near each other. We know that Arizona beat Texas and OCRG, but considering how badly Arizona lost to San Diego and how close Texas was to beating San Diego, you just can’t put OCRG between TXRD and AZDD.
Frankly, I think TXRD would beat AZDD if they played again. But until that happens, AZDD deserves their spot.
