Is it just me, or does Brad Example sound like a computer-programmed voice, like the ones used on Xtranormal?
Good episode. Whether or not you like the rules as they are or not, we need more discussion about them. Only good things will come of it. Thanks for the shout-out.
Holy boobs! lol Thanks for using my pic for this episode! <3 DD! Can't wait to kick ass this weekend for JCRG championships yay!
xoxo
@Moxxxie, that’s what I thought it was… that was a person? Weird. Also, I would like to submit for the record that Gia & Roger win this entire episode with their contribution to the promotional items brainstorm.
Well, Moxxxie, I do spend a lot of time around computers, maybe it’s just rubbing off…
As far as that stalled 60-second jam, that was Philly working on a penalty kill — but I couldn’t say why Denver didn’t just skate away. It’s quite possible that, since they were in the lead, they were happy to let Philly run time off the clock, but I can’t speak for the skaters. Personally, I’d be quite happy with either a one-whistle start or a second whistle based on time. The one-whistle start would sure simplify explaining the game!
I would definitely buy a Derby Deeds fanny pack. Especially if it was black and silver (preferrably silver as the main color!)
Just sayin’
Thanks Derby Deeds for giving me something fun to listen to while I waste away in front of my computer editing photos all day;)
The June 11 No Minors games at Rat City are Sockit Wenches vs. TBD and Rain of Terror vs. Jet City’s B52s, not the Rat City All-Stars vs. Jet City’s Bombers.
They will be broadcast on DNN.

Awesome, thank you for the heads up!! We were going off of the info at wftda.com, and it just says Rat v Jet. =)
Please, please, please. Have someone to talk about the Arizona State Roller Derby Conference Championship. The Bad News Beaters versus Copper Queens final sounds like it was a fantastic game. Was it?
I was there. I will talk about it. Ad nauseam.
@Pitchit
Yipee! Is Ad nauseam is good thing?
Things to think about on changing the start whistle-
One whistle start-One major consequence would be the strategy of the blockers lining up right in front of the jammers. You would end up with a much slower derby on a majority of the starts. So instead of a boring 60 sec delay once a bout we end up with 30-40 slow starting jams.
Timed 2nd whistle-You end up with potentially the same problem, the incentive for the skaters is to just wait on the line until the jammers start. Why skate away from the girl you are blocking giving her time to speed up. If a team is trying to fast pack it they can’t even start skating as the other team will just stand there.
No change- Is it so bad to have one or two jams where it’s a little boring for the first 30-60 secs of the jam? Basketball, football, soccer, baseball all have time delaying tactics. Basketball: pass the ball around and kill all the time off the shot clock, yea it’s only 25 or 35 secs versus 60 secs but teams will often use this strategy back to back trying to kill the clock at the end of the game. Football, teams start trying to run the clock off via certain plays, waiting the full play clock, taking a knee, or calling multiple timeouts to freeze the kicker. Baseball, the pitcher will through to 1st base over and over again so that the next pitcher can warm up or to freeze the batter. Soccer, the teams take their time throwing/kicking the ball back in play, or the ultimate time killer of taking the ball to the opposite teams corner and forcing the other team to constantly kick it out of bounds giving the leading team a throw-in or a corner kick over and over again. I’ve seen these tactics used at the highest level of all of these sports. It’s part of sports and fans really don’t care that much.
Bottom line: leave the starts the same.
P.S. where’s my Sheeza Wicked Shirt?
@Coach Pain Newton
Or…keep the rules the same as far as the last blocker crossing the line but any blocker that hasn’t crossed the pivot line after 5 or 10 seconds gets a delay of game penalty and is sent to the box. No longer start jams when there is no pack (I don’t really see how this makes sense anyway) so you insure that every blocker always crosses the pivot line before the jammers start.
You’re saying it’s boring to waste 60 seconds which is true but there’s nothing actively stopping it at 60 seconds. It could last for the entire jam if both teams wanted it to and I will not be one bit surprised if we see that happen this year. That just should not be able to happen.
I think that Gia de los Muertos, Roger Assaultrey, and Eric Rawk won this episode for me! What a promotional idea!!!
@Megatron
the no minors bout will be RoT vs B52s and Dockyard’s Wave of Mutilation vs Sockit Wenches. just got that nailed down last week.
